How do dynamic discount tiers work?

Using discount tiers, you can encourage shoppers to save more by spending more. Discount tiers allow you to chain multiple messages as the customer progresses towards the tiers. You can think of tiers as goals that the shopper is trying to get in order to save more.

In the Default banner section, under the Discount banner type, you will have the option to select Dynamic with tiers after entering a discount code that has a subtotal minimum defined on it.

Customers move to the next tier as they add more to their cart, which means that your discounts must have subtotal minimums set. For example, if your first tier discount has a minimum of $50 and your second tier discount has a minimum of $100, the customer will have earned the first tier once they have at least $50 in their cart. At that point, they'll be shown the minimum remaining message for the second tier until they reach the next tier minimum of $100. Once all tiers have been reached, the Minimum reached message will be displayed in the banner. Regardless of what tier the customer ends at, if the Auto-apply discount option is checked in the banner settings then the correct tier code will be applied at checkout automatically.

The Dynamic Banner Suite makes it easy to build these tiers by allowing you to enter an existing discount code that you want to base the tiers on. After doing that, you can click the Add tier button to add a new tier. You can then provide values for the next tier's discount, which includes the discount code to be used, the subtotal minimum, and the amount they'll save. Make sure that the new tier has a higher minimum value than the previous tier.

When you click Save, any tiers you created in the app will be created in Shopify's discounts automatically if they don't already exist. These new discounts will have all other discount settings matching the first tier's discount code, including eligibility and entitled products. For existing discounts entered into a tier, the subtotal minimums and amounts will be modified to match the values you've entered, but no other modifications will be made to the discount code.

You can use the Preview at the top of the page to see what will happen as the customer moves between tiers and make sure the messaging is consistent with the experience you'd like the shopper to have.
