Required Newsletter Features

Seguno seeks to provide the best email marketing solution for merchants while upholding ethical practices that protects the merchants, their customers, and Seguno as the app provider. In order to do this efficiently and comply with legal regulations, there are a few sections of your email newsletters and automations that are required - option to unsubscribe and having a mail address in the footer.

Unsubscribe Button

According to the CAN-SPAM Act, it is a federal requirement that all recipients of emails with commercial messages have 1) the right to elect to receive emails from you as well as 2) the right to demand that you stop emailing them. The unsubscribe button is the simple solution to this law that you will find is mandatory of ALL email marketing platforms.

At the moment, the unsubscribe button cannot be modified in the Seguno newsletter editor. We have found that making the option to unsubscribe very clear builds trust with subscribers and reduces spam complaints. Also, the thin red border helps it be seen as a destructive action one should only click when they really want to click it.

If you have successfully authenticated your domain, the unsubscribe button in the header of your emails can be removed.

Tip

While the header unsubscribe button can be removed, it is a best practice and recommended to include this option in all marketing emails.

Mailing Address in Footer

Having a physical mailing address in the footer section of your email newsletter is a requirement to comply with anti-spam laws. If you do not have a brick and mortar location or main office, we suggest using a P.O. box. You may update your address in the Company details section of your settings.

Spam Protect

Although this topic isn't a required section of your newsletter, it is a required feature to start sending newsletters.  Spam Protect is used to keep your customer lists clean from fake emails and spam bots. It will monitor your account and unsubscribe bad emails before they hurt your deliverability. These bad emails are primarily either invalid or fake signups that would have resulted in bounces or spam complaints. Even a small dose of bounces and complaints can have a huge impact on your ability to reach the inbox of subscribers that are actually interested in hearing from you. Too many spam complaints can have your account suspended from Seguno.

Therefore, Spam Protect is required to use the Seguno: Email Marketing platform and you will NOT be able to send out email newsletters/automations until it is activated. There will be a yellow message box prompting you to activate Spam Protect, which will also include the number of subscribers that are expected to be cleaned by the system:

Once activated, there will be a green message box letting you know that you can start sending newsletters.

See our Seguno Help Doc on What is Spam Protect? for more details and information about the system.

GDPR Compliance

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the European Union’s new data privacy law that requires companies to be more transparent about how your customers' and subscribers' personal data is used. If your business, customers, and/or subscribers are based in Europe, then your website and your email marketing efforts are all subject to GDPR laws.
